Fresh Piercing Basics

Clean, Gentle, Patient

Fresh piercings need time, clean care, and quality jewelry. Healing is not instant, and irritation bumps often come from touching, twisting, sleeping on the piercing, changing jewelry too soon, or using harsh products.

Clean with sterile saline wound wash only. Do not use alcohol, peroxide, ointment, tea tree oil, or random bathroom-cabinet wizard potions.

Daily Care

Keep the routine simple and consistent.

1. Wash Hands First

Never touch a fresh piercing with unwashed hands.

2. Use Sterile Saline

Spray sterile saline wound wash on the piercing area. Do not mix homemade salt water.

3. Let It Sit Briefly

Allow the saline to soften any crusties. Do not pick them off dry.

4. Dry Gently

Use clean gauze or a clean paper product. Avoid fuzzy towels that can snag jewelry.

5. Leave Jewelry Alone

Do not twist, rotate, remove, or change jewelry until the piercing is ready.

6. Watch Pressure

Avoid sleeping on it, bumping it, catching it, or wearing tight clothing/headphones over it.

What To Avoid

Most piercing problems come from too much touching or too many products.

No Alcohol Or Peroxide

These are too harsh and can irritate healing tissue.

No Swimming

Avoid pools, lakes, hot tubs, and soaking during the early healing period.

No Makeup Or Lotions

Keep cosmetics, sprays, oils, and skincare products away from the piercing channel.

No Early Jewelry Changes

Changing too soon can restart irritation or close the piercing.

No Oral Contact

Avoid saliva, kissing, or other contact on fresh oral/facial piercings until safe.

No Guessing

If something seems off, ask the studio before removing jewelry.

For unusual swelling, spreading redness, heat, severe pain, discharge, fever, or signs of infection, contact a medical professional. For fit, placement, downsizing, and jewelry questions, contact the studio.
